Theekshan (8/8/19)

Theekshan (DOB: 8/8/19) is an adorable boy and the only child of his parents. The family is from a poor background and live in a small hut. They do not have proper clothing or other household items. They have one electric bulb and one switchboard in their hut. Their hut is located on the banks of a river tributary which flows through this village. They use the river water for all domestic purposes. For drinking, there is a community water tap that is provided by the government which is available twice a week. So, they collect water and store it in plastic pots. His father is a daily laborer who works on an agricultural farm. Their village is prone to drought. For irrigation, the government provides water. If there is no water supply, agricultural work stops. So they fully depend on the government to supply water for their farming work. If there is no farming work, Theekshan’s father tries to find work on construction sites outside the village and nearby districts. His mother works with a government program, 100 days of labor, provided for the poor. To add to the family’s financial burden, Theekshan’s grandmother and aunt live with them. Theekshan takes care of their two goats with his grandmother. Seeing other children going to the child-care center, he wants to be a part of it too. Though Theekshan’s parents are uneducated, they wish to a give good education to him.
